COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS FOR A CERTIFICATE IN SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

REQUIREMENT 1
The candidate must obtain a personal spiritual director and participate in regular spiritual direction sessions, attending at least six meetings per year, before completing the second session.

REQUIREMENT 2
The candidate must attend all three two-week sessions in full, totalling six weeks, and complete the required readings for each session

REQUIREMENT 3
The candidate must complete one of the following two options:
a) The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, either in the 30-day silent retreat format or in the “19th Annotation” format, or
b) A silent, directed Ignatian retreat of 8 days.
This requirement is typically fulfilled between the first and second sessions.

 

REQUIREMENT 4
Complete a supervised practicum. The candidate will find a practicing Christian who wishes to deepen their prayer life and commitment to loving God. The candidate will meet with their prayer companion once a week for a duration of 16 weeks. During the practicum, the candidate will receive supervision and will be evaluated upon completion.
This practicum is typically undertaken between the second and third sessions.

REQUIREMENT 5
The candidate must fulfil all formation expectations and demonstrate to the Co-Directors their readiness for the role of spiritual direction.

Application package

To be considered for admission to the People of Praise School of Accompaniment and Spiritual Direction (POP SASD), candidates must submit a complete application package that includes the following components:
– A completed application form
– Five (5) required essays (please refer to the application form for specific details)
– Two (2) Letters of Recommendation: one from the Candidate’s Parish Priest, Priest/Pastor, or Community Leader, and another from the Candidate’s Spiritual Director.

If the candidate does not have a Spiritual Director, the second letter should come from someone unrelated to the candidate who has extensive knowledge of their character and background.
– A non-refundable application fee of $200.00
All of these items must be received before a candidate is considered for acceptance.

COSTS PER SESSION

Payable at the beginning of each session:

  • Application : TT $200
  • Administration, Books, Meals & Tuition:
    TT $4,500 – $5,000
    (based on number of attendees)

APPLICATION REVIEW

  1. The Admissions Team of the People of Praise School of Accompaniment and Spiritual Direction will evaluate the application, recommendation letters, and personal statement before deciding on acceptance or rejection.

  2. After acceptance, the applicant will receive a confirmation letter detailing the attendance information. Throughout the program, each student’s spiritual director will conduct regular reviews and evaluations to assess the student’s progress and suitability for certification in spiritual direction.
